I’ve seen a lot of talk about side hustles lately. People are building them, worrying about them, and turning them into careers.
I think it’s great. I’ve never had a “real job”—my career has been built entirely around monetizing content, from YouTube videos, to photos, to Medium articles, to (hopefully soon) newsletters.
It occurred to me recently that saying someone has a “side hustle” is really just a way to say that that they’re created a source of passive income—revenue which keeps coming in without them having to do any additional work.
In short, passive income is automated income. You create something once, and then collect royalties, ad revenue, or other payments…forever. As such, I feel like passive income, side hustles, and all that’s involved there falls very much within the purview of DIY HA, which focuses on automation of all kinds—of your home but also your life.
For that reason, I'll be focusing more here and on our blog http://www.diy-ha.com (and on YouTube) on side hustles, passive income, and even things like crypto.
To get the conversation started, I took several articles I’ve written about microstock photography and combined them into a book, “How to Make $100 Per Month Selling Microstock Photography.” It’s currently the #1 Professional Photography book in the Kindle store.
Why photography? Most of us walk around with a camera in our pockets all day, and many people take hundreds of photos each month without really thinking about it. Why not transform those photos into a source of passive income?
Spoiler alert: You probably won’t get rich with microstock photography. But it’s an ideal side hustle, in that you can take photos once, post them to a microstock marketplace, and earn indefinitely. Maybe you’ll make enough to buy yourself a latte each month. Maybe you’ll make $100 per month (if you read my book AND do the work, I’d be surprised if you didn’t). Maybe you’ll make a lot more.
My book shares an honest, data-driven perspective on the microstock world, and gives you actionable steps you can use to start your own microstock side hustle. And here’s the best part. For the rest of today only, I’m giving the book away for free! If you want a free copy, you’ll have to grab it on the Kindle store by midnight PST tonight.
Here’s a link. Grab your copy now. And if you know of a budding photographer who could use to generate some passive income, forward this message to them or post it online, too!
